Education technology company Codio has raised $5 million in strategic growth financing to expand its AI literacy platform and help colleges prepare students for an AI-driven workforce.
The financing was led by long-term investor Armada Investment and comes alongside the launch of Codio’s new AI Literacy offering.
The new platform is designed to help students understand not only how to use artificial intelligence tools, but also when AI should be used, how to evaluate its outputs, when its use should be disclosed and how to remain accountable for final decisions.
Teaching AI Literacy Across Disciplines
Codio’s AI Literacy framework is aligned with the US Department of Labor’s AI Literacy framework and follows the company’s methodology of “Notice, Test, Verify, Explain and Defend.”
The approach focuses on critical thinking and responsible decision-making rather than simply teaching students how to generate content or automate tasks using AI.
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly common across the workplace, Codio believes students need practical skills to use AI effectively while understanding its limitations and risks.
AI Learning With Faculty Oversight
Codio delivers the curriculum through its learning experience platform, allowing students to work directly with leading AI models.
Faculty can monitor assignments, student progress and AI interactions, giving instructors greater visibility into how students are using artificial intelligence.
The platform also integrates with learning management systems such as Canvas, allowing universities to add AI-focused assignments and coursework into existing educational workflows.
Instead of restricting students from using AI, Codio’s approach aims to make AI usage visible while teaching students how to evaluate AI-generated results and maintain human accountability.
University of Tampa to Adopt Program
The University of Tampa is expected to become an early adopter of Codio’s new AI Literacy offering.
Following a redesign of its required digital literacy curriculum, the university plans to launch a required AI literacy course using Codio’s platform in the fall.
The course will be available to students across academic disciplines and is designed to provide practical experience with using and evaluating AI before students enter the workforce.
Expanding Into Business Education
Codio also plans to expand its AI education offering with an Applied AI for Business Schools program.
The initiative is expected to combine foundational AI literacy with discipline-specific assignments and tools that help faculty integrate artificial intelligence into existing business courses.
The new funding will support the expansion of these programs and further development of Codio’s learning platform.
More Than 3 Million Learners
Codio currently works with more than 150 universities and educational institutions worldwide and says its platform has helped more than 3 million learners develop technical skills.
The company focuses on hands-on learning in real software environments, giving students opportunities to work with technologies such as cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity tools and AI systems.
With its latest financing and new AI Literacy offering, Codio is expanding beyond its traditional focus on computer science and technical education to help institutions prepare students across disciplines for workplaces where AI is becoming a standard capability.
