London-based startup Unravel Health has raised €2.96 million (£2.5 million) to develop a small device that can measure hormone levels at home every day. The palm-sized device, called Micro Lab, is designed to test saliva samples and provide results for multiple hormones within minutes.
The funding round was led by Conduit EIS Impact Fund and Wrightwood. Other investors included Leo Capital, Embryo Ventures and Hermesa, along with existing investor Zinc VC, which also participated in the round.
“People said nobody could climb Everest without oxygen, until someone did. Reading hormones in saliva outside a lab has been our Everest. Fifteen years ago I built my own hormone tracker to manage PCOS (now PMOS), because a blood test told me almost nothing about what my body was doing. Soon anyone will be able to bring the lab home to understand their symptoms,” said Veronika Bridgman, co-founder and CEO of Unravel Health.
Founded in 2024 by Bridgman, Liza Levy (Chief Commercial Officer) and Dr Alexandra Oti (Chief Medical Officer), Unravel Health is a women’s health startup working to make hormone-related health data easier to access and understand.
According to the company, saliva contains hormones in very small amounts that usually require laboratory equipment to measure. Unravel Health aims to bring this testing into people’s homes through its technology. The technology was developed over ten years at the University of Glasgow and is protected by three granted patents.
The company’s Micro Lab device is being designed to measure four important hormones at the same time, including oestradiol, the main form of oestrogen. This approach aims to help women better understand their hormone levels and how they may relate to their health.
Eva-Maria Dimitriadis, Managing Partner at Conduit EIS Impact Fund, said, “Women’s hormonal health is one of the largest under-served markets in healthcare, and the bottleneck has always been data. Unravel is solving a hard technical problem that many are trying to address: measuring multiple hormones accurately, longitudinally, and affordably. And they are doing it via saliva, at home, aiming for lab-grade sensitivity. The team pairs deep science with a clear view of what women and clinicians actually need. We’re proud to lead this round and back them from a very early stage.”
The funding will help Unravel Health carry out independent studies to check its device’s accuracy, develop tests for additional health markers and begin the regulatory approval process. The company plans to make the first Micro Lab devices available to early users in 2027 through partnerships with pharmacies, digital health companies and clinical research organisations.
The company is initially focusing on women’s hormone health. However, its technology has also been used to measure other health markers, including those linked to heart health and prostate cancer. In the future, this technology could help bring a wider range of medical tests into people’s homes.
