Flip, a Stuttgart-based employee experience platform, has raised €22 million (£19 million) in new funding. The company helps frontline and deskless workers communicate, access information and manage their work more easily.
The new funding will be used to develop AI infrastructure and knowledge tools for workers who do not usually work at a desk. Flip plans to make its platform more useful for these employees.
The funding round was supported by existing investors Notion Capital and HV Capital, which have increased their investments in Flip. L-Bank, the development bank of the German state of Baden-Württemberg, has also joined the company as a new investor.
“AI has long been part of everyday life in the office but, on the assembly line, in stores, or in care settings, it has barely arrived,” comments Benedikt Brand, co-founder and CEO of Flip. “This isn’t due to a lack of interest, but because many frontline organisations lack the digital identity and infrastructure required for AI to make a difference in daily operational work. That is exactly the gap Flip closes: with secure digital identity, AI agents, and custom-generated frontline apps on a single platform.”
“We’ve backed Flip since 2022, and over that time we’ve watched the team build a leading position in the enterprise market, both within Europe and the US. That we are doubling down reflects our conviction that Flip is playing a defining role in shaping the category of AI for frontline teams,” adds Jos White, General Partner at Notion Capital.
Flip was founded in 2018 and brings communication, work tools, digital identity and AI together in one app. The platform is designed for the 80% of employees who do not work at a desk.
The company’s customers include Bosch, REWE Group, SIXT, TEDi, FORVIA HELLA, Greif and Europart.
During its first pilot with Greif, Flip reportedly achieved an 85% adoption rate, while 74% of users continued to use the platform every week. Following this success, Greif expanded the platform to more than 100 locations across 15 countries.
Flip says many frontline workers in areas such as manufacturing, retail, logistics, healthcare and hospitality are being left behind as other employees develop new AI skills. The company believes this could affect their pay, career growth and job security, especially in industries where employee turnover is already high.
To support its next stage of growth, Flip is focusing on its AI app-building tool, Flip Fusion. Instead of companies spending months selecting, purchasing and customising software, Fusion can create custom apps for frontline workers in real time, based on the needs of a specific store, team or business process.
