Swiss deep-tech company Sonexos SA has raised CHF 5 million (approximately €5.4 million or $6.1 million) in a new equity funding round. The company develops solid-state technology that actively reduces unwanted noise. The Pre-Series A round was led by Valquest Partners, with participation from Robert Bosch Venture Capital GmbH (Bosch Ventures), industry experts and private investors.
As part of the investment, Fadi Noureddine, founder and managing partner of Valquest Partners, will join Sonexos’ Board of Directors.
“Engineers have always had to trade space and weight for silence. Plasmacoustics removes that compromise,” said Mark Donaldson, Founder and CEO of Sonexos. “This financing carries it from working prototypes into our customers’ products, at scale.”
“Sonexos is addressing a fundamental engineering constraint with a technology that opens a much larger design space for low-frequency noise control,” said Fadi Noureddine, Founder and Managing Partner of Valquest Partners. “The combination of differentiated science, a strong intellectual-property position and progress with leading OEMs gives the company a credible path toward industrial production.”
“Technology is most valuable when it moves out of the laboratory and solves problems people experience every day. Sonexos is a strong example of that principle: outstanding deep tech addressing a very tangible challenge, with applications ranging from the appliances in our homes to the infrastructure powering the digital economy,” said Dr. Ingo Ramesohl, Managing Director of Bosch Ventures. “What convinced us in particular is the credible pathway toward industrial scale.”
Sonexos was founded by CEO Mark Donaldson, who has around 30 years of experience in active noise control technology. He previously founded SoundChip, a company that developed noise-cancelling audio technology for headphones and earbuds used by major consumer electronics brands. SoundChip was later acquired by DSP Group, which is now part of Synaptics.
Sonexos uses a special technology called plasmacoustics, which it licensed from EPFL, a Swiss research university. Dr. Stanislav Sergeev, now the company’s Chief Technology Officer, developed the technology and published research on it in Nature Communications in 2023. Chief Operating Officer Andrea Onetti also brings extensive industry experience, having spent more than 30 years at STMicroelectronics. He most recently served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of its MEMS division, where he gained experience in producing semiconductor devices on a large scale.
The new funding will help Sonexos turn its prototypes into products ready for industrial use. The company is already working with leading global manufacturers of home appliances and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems on paid prototype testing and integration projects. It is also working to include its technology in their products. The most advanced projects could enter mass production in early 2028, depending on successful integration, regulatory approval and product launch preparations.
