Cami Clark, the wife and key adviser of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, tried to get investment from Jeffrey Epstein for what she described as a “revolutionary porn company” aimed at women, according to The Wall Street Journal and emails from the Epstein files.
Clark was introduced to Epstein in March 2011 by literary agent John Brockman. At the time, Epstein had already been convicted in 2008 of a sex offense and soliciting prostitution.
Brockman suggested that Epstein meet Clark and her business partner, Michell Capocefalo, for dinner.
In March 2012, Clark asked Epstein whether he would invest in businesses she was developing with a colleague. There is no evidence that Epstein ever provided the funding. In another email, Epstein replied, “Can’t do TV sex.”
Clark also invited Epstein to a housewarming party in July 2012. The emails do not show that they met again in person.
“We would love to have dinner with you this evening,” Cami then replied to the email that introduced her. The next day, she sent an email with the company’s funding requirements and said, “It was FANTASTIC meeting you last night!”
A few days later she sent the script and treatment of the first few films of her company and said that he “might enjoy” the content with “the ladies”.
“In an email, she wrote, “Jeffrey! We thought you and the ladies might enjoy the script/treatment for our first 4 films, American Girl in Paris. A little nsfw… C”
Who Is Cami Clark?
Clark has been described as a “sounding board and strategic adviser” to Amodei and Anthropic, although she does not officially work for the company.
She has reportedly played an influential role behind the scenes. She has been seen with Amodei at major events, including Davos, and has spoken with investors at important gatherings such as the Allen & Co. conference in Sun Valley.
When Amodei recently visited India for the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, he brought Clark with him as his guest. Most other executives reportedly brought colleagues.
Clark was born in Nevada in 1979. She dated former Google CEO Eric Schmidt for about three years beginning in 2014 and married Amodei in 2022.
When Amodei joined OpenAI in 2016, Clark worked as his strategic adviser and introduced him to Schmidt. In 2018, she arranged a meeting between them, and Schmidt later visited their San Francisco apartment. Schmidt was impressed by their ideas about artificial intelligence.
In late 2020, Amodei, his sister Daniela and several colleagues left OpenAI and founded Anthropic. Schmidt later became an important early investor. He participated in Anthropic’s $124 million Series A funding round, announced in May 2021.
