French quantum software company ColibriTD has raised €4 million in seed funding. The company will use the new money to improve its simulation technology and expand into international markets.
The funding round was led by Earlybird Venture Capital, with participation from SymbiaVC and Medin VC. Earlybird had previously invested €1 million in ColibriTD during its pre-seed round.
ColibriTD was founded in 2019 by Laurent Guiraud and Hacène Goudjil. The company develops quantum software that helps solve complex simulation problems for industries such as aerospace, defence, semiconductors, energy, automotive and finance.
Its main technology is called H-DES, or Hybrid Differential Equation Solver. It is a quantum algorithm designed to solve partial differential equations (PDEs), which are commonly used to simulate things like fluid movement, material changes, electromagnetic activity and financial risks.
ColibriTD aims to use quantum computing for industrial simulations that can require a lot of computing power. Its software works as a bridge between quantum computers and the engineering and scientific tools used by companies. The platform is hardware-agnostic, meaning it can work with quantum systems from different providers.
The company has completed seven joint development projects across six industries. These include defence and aerospace, space and climate science, semiconductor design, nuclear energy, automotive engineering and finance. Its work has included radio-frequency design and combustion modelling for propulsion systems.
ColibriTD will use the new funding to continue developing H-DES and hire more quantum researchers and engineers. The company also plans to build more partnerships with quantum hardware providers, universities and industrial companies as it expands internationally.
