KineDB, a company developing database technology for cloud systems and offline devices, has raised €850,000 in pre-seed funding. The funding round was led by Superhero Capital, with support from NGL Ventures and several angel investors.
The angel investors include Jussi Pyörre, CTO of Cactos, and Kristoffer Abell and Jakob Lilholm, co-CEOs of Danish compliance software company Formalize.
KineDB was founded by Axel Löwenhoff and Allan Zimmermann. The company is building a database that can work across different environments, including cloud systems and local devices that do not have an internet connection.
The company aims to make database management easier for developers. Its technology is designed to let developers use one system for both online and offline applications, reducing the need to manage separate database solutions.
As AI-powered tools make it easier to build software, more applications are being created. This is increasing demand for reliable infrastructure. KineDB aims to help developers, especially those with limited experience managing complex databases, build and run applications more easily.
Axel Löwenhoff, co-founder of KineDB, explained how the growing use of AI in software development is changing the requirements for database infrastructure: “The way AI has opened the gates for developers of all levels to experiment and launch new software is a wonderful thing. A consequence, however, is a lot of software where creators haven’t necessarily considered the underlying databases essential to functionality. With KineDB, we want to remove that as a layer of complication for engineers by providing a database that works within this new environment.”
KineDB is initially targeting industries where internet access is limited or unreliable. For example, workers in underground mines could use mobile devices to record work progress and equipment conditions without an internet connection. Once they are back online, the data would automatically sync with a central database.
While the company is starting with offline data management, it plans to expand its platform to support a wider range of software applications in the future.
The new funding will help KineDB develop its technology and grow its team. The company plans to hire engineers with experience in databases, storage systems and query engines.
