Midstream Health, an AI-powered financial operations platform for healthcare systems, has raised $20 million in Series A funding led by Valtruis. Existing investors Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Foundry, and CommonSpirit Ventures also participated, bringing the company’s total funding to $29.2 million.
The company will use the funding to expand its platform, which helps hospitals recover lost revenue, identify missed rebates, and reduce unnecessary costs.
Midstream Health serves a growing network representing more than $100 billion in annual operating expenses and over 250 hospitals across the United States. New customers include Fairview Health Services and Keck Medicine of USC, joining existing partners such as CommonSpirit Health, Mount Sinai Health System, and Houston Methodist.
“In this environment, health systems need solutions that can improve their financial position quickly,” said Mike Spadafore, Managing Director of Valtruis. “We’re backing Midstream because it’s built first-of-its-kind infrastructure to turn complex financial data into action. Where enterprise healthcare technology can take years to demonstrate value, Midstream delivers within the quarter.”
“In today’s challenging healthcare environment, we have to be thoughtful about how we manage our resources and continually look for opportunities to operate more efficiently,” said James Hereford, CEO of Fairview Health Services. “By leveraging AI-driven financial operations, we can improve financial performance, allowing us to focus more resources on delivering care to our patients and communities.”
The platform uses AI agents to analyze contracts, claims, purchasing records, pharmacy data, and payments. It identifies missed financial opportunities including unpaid reimbursements, unclaimed rebates, and pricing agreements that have not been enforced.
Midstream Health has identified more than 1,500 financial recovery opportunities across its customer base this year. Early partners are projecting returns of more than five times their investment, while the company aims to help clients achieve $100 million in savings by the end of 2026.
Founded to address financial challenges in healthcare, Midstream Health aims to help hospitals improve financial performance and direct more resources toward patient care.
