GT Metabolic Solutions Secures Series C Investment from J.P. Morgan Life Sciences Private Capital

GT Metabolic Solutions, a medical device company developing magnetic technology for gastrointestinal surgery, has secured a Series C growth investment from J.P. Morgan Life Sciences Private Capital. The company did not disclose the investment amount.

The funding will support GT Metabolic’s global commercial launch and expansion into additional surgical and therapeutic applications. The company plans to target endoscopic and colorectal surgery next, with further medical applications to follow.

GT Metabolic develops a linear magnetic anastomosis system that uses magnetic compression to connect two tubular structures in the body, such as sections of the intestine. The technology is designed to create gastrointestinal connections without incisions at the connection site, sutures, or staples, and without leaving foreign material behind that could interfere with healing.

The system can be used in different surgical settings, including endoscopic, robotic and laparoscopic procedures. According to the company, its approach is designed to preserve natural tissue healing while potentially reducing complications associated with conventional surgical connections.

Addressing Complications in Gastrointestinal Surgery

Complications following gastrointestinal anastomosis procedures can include leaks and bleeding which may lead to serious outcomes such as infections, hospital readmissions, and additional surgery.

GT Metabolic’s magnetic compression technology aims to create reliable connections while reducing the risk of these complications. The company says it was the first to receive both FDA De Novo authorization and 510(k) clearance for the use of magnetic technology to create compression anastomoses.

Expanding Commercial Reach

The investment marks GT Metabolic’s first institutional financing partnership with J.P. Morgan Life Sciences Private Capital. The partnership is intended to provide capital and strategic support as the company expands its commercial operations and develops additional clinical applications.

GT Metabolic Solutions develops and manufactures magnetic compression devices for gastrointestinal surgery. The company operates in Minneapolis, Minnesota; San Jose, California; and Montréal, Canada.

With the new investment, GT Metabolic plans to expand access to its technology and pursue additional uses across surgical specialties.
