Anthropic has chosen Nasdaq as the listing venue for its potential initial public offering (IPO), according to a person familiar with the company’s plans.
The AI company, which develops the Claude chatbot, is preparing for a possible IPO as early as October. Reports say Anthropic could seek to raise as much money as, or even more than, SpaceX did in its record-setting IPO.
Nasdaq has already secured several major US IPOs this year, including SpaceX’s $86.3 billion offering in June. SK Hynix also raised $26.5 billion in its July debut on the exchange.
Anthropic’s decision is another major win for Nasdaq as competition between US exchanges grows. Both Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange are looking to attract major technology and AI companies as the IPO market becomes more active.
Anthropic’s IPO plans come at a time when concerns about AI safety are increasing. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently said his company would not go public in 2026, citing the need to focus on AI safety and alignment.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has also called on the AI industry to slow down the development of increasingly powerful AI systems because of the potential risks.
Meanwhile, Anthropic is reportedly preparing a $15 billion revolving credit facility as it continues to expand its business. The company’s annualized revenue is also reported to have grown sharply, reaching more than $65 billion based on its current performance.
The company has not yet publicly filed its IPO documents. Before starting its investor roadshow, Anthropic will need to make its financial information public.
If the IPO goes ahead, Anthropic could become one of the biggest technology listings in US history and further increase competition between Nasdaq and the NYSE for major AI companies.
