Multiply Labs Raises $75M in Series B Round to Expand Robotic Drug Manufacturing

Multiply Labs, a San Francisco-based robotics and biomanufacturing company, has raised $75 million in Series B funding to expand its technology for automated drug manufacturing.

The round was led by NantWorks, with participation from AstraZeneca Ventures, Lingotto, Legend Biotech, Fifty Years Ventures, Ora Global, Teradyne Ventures, Strange Ventures, Casdin Capital, Lux Capital and Founders Fund.

The latest funding brings Multiply Labs’ total funding to more than $100 million since the company was founded in 2016.

Multiply Labs develops robotic systems designed to automate the manufacturing of complex medicines, including cell and gene therapies. The company’s technology combines robotics, biotechnology equipment and software to automate multiple steps in the drug production process.

Its modular robotic pods contain commercially available biotech instruments inside closed and sterile environments. Robotic arms can perform tasks such as moving cellular fluids, monitoring incubation and mixing formulations.

The company says its automated systems help reduce the risk of human contamination while creating a digitally auditable manufacturing process.

AstraZeneca and Legend Biotech are among the companies currently using Multiply Labs’ technology in commercial operations.

Multiply Labs will use the new funding to expand its robotics and hardware engineering teams, accelerate the manufacturing of automated cell and gene therapy production lines, and support commercial deployments across North America and Europe.

Founded by CEO Fred Parietti, PhD, Multiply Labs is focused on helping pharmaceutical companies automate the production of advanced therapies as demand for complex medicines continues to grow.
