Mach9 Raises 34 Million in Series A Round to Bring Civil Engineering into the AI Era

Mach9, a US-based AI software startup for civil engineering, has raised $34 million in Series A funding. The round was co-led by First Round Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from Prudence and existing investor Quiet Capital. The funding brings the company’s total funding to $49 million.

Mach9 will use the funds to expand its AI software, which helps surveying and civil engineering teams create digital blueprints for roads, utilities and construction sites.

The company’s software converts 3D scans into engineering drawings up to 10 times faster and at one-fifth of the cost of traditional methods. It automatically identifies physical features such as road markings, curbs, signs, utility poles and wires, helping engineers prepare accurate drawings with less manual work.

Mach9 aims to address growing demand for infrastructure repairs and upgrades across the US. Many roads, power lines and utility systems are ageing, while engineering teams face challenges in preparing the detailed surveys needed before construction work begins.

The company says its technology has been used in more than 2,500 projects across all 50 US states, covering over 100,000 miles of infrastructure. Its customers include engineering firms WSP, HNTB and NV5, along with transportation agencies such as Caltrans and Minnesota DOT.

Mach9 was founded by Baikovitz, Haowen Shi, Michael Mong and Zach Sussman after they met at Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute. The founding team previously worked on technology for understanding and navigating the physical world at companies and organisations including Tesla, SpaceX, Apple, NASA and Google X.

About Mach9

Mach9 builds AI-enabled CAD software that takes 3D scans and turns them into digital engineering drawings. Its platform enables civil engineering and survey teams to produce accurate blueprints faster and reduce cost on infrastructure projects.
