Torch Systems Raises $11.5 Million For Grid Monitoring

Torch Systems, a Lafayette, California-based outdoor asset intelligence company, has raised $11.5 million in new funding to expand its sensing technology and deployment operations.

The financing includes $9.5 million in equity and $2 million in venture debt. The equity round was led by Khosla Ventures, Abstract, Construct Capital and Starship Ventures. First Citizens Innovation Banking provided the venture debt financing.

Torch Systems plans to use the new funding to accelerate the manufacturing and deployment of its TerraNode sensing devices. The company will also expand its go-to-market and field operations teams and continue developing its Torch Intelligence Platform.

Led by CEO Vasya Tremsin, Torch Systems provides technology designed to help operators monitor outdoor infrastructure across large and distributed locations.

Its TerraNode devices are self-contained and solar-powered. They combine optical and thermal cameras with acoustic, gas, air-quality and environmental sensors. Edge AI processes the data to help detect risks such as fires, equipment overheating, security breaches and vegetation growth.

The company serves utilities, renewable energy operators, municipalities and industrial customers. Its technology is currently being deployed across California, Oregon, New Mexico, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

Torch Systems aims to give infrastructure operators continuous visibility into outdoor assets and help them identify potential problems before they become larger operational or safety issues.
