Finnish Startup Coherence Quantum Secures €2.78M to Scale Quantum Computing

Finnish quantum hardware startup Coherence Quantum has raised €2.78 million in Seed funding to develop technology for controlling quantum computers. The funding round was led by Lifeline Ventures, with participation from technology entrepreneur Mårten Mickos.

The company grew out of research at Aalto University’s Quantum Computing and Devices group. It is developing a system that helps send signals to and control quantum processors at extremely low temperatures. The technology aims to solve some of the technical challenges involved in building larger and more powerful quantum computers.

As quantum computers grow, adding more qubits also makes their control systems more complex. Traditional systems often need more wires and additional hardware, while operating within limited space and cooling capacity. Coherence Quantum aims to make these systems more efficient by improving signal processing and creating better connections between control systems and quantum processors.

Aashish Sah, CEO and co-founder of Coherence Quantum, explained that scaling quantum computers requires not only increasing the number of qubits but also developing the infrastructure needed to support them. He said: “We’re starting with signal conditioning and building towards higher-density interfaces and, ultimately, more integrated cryogenic control. Our aim is to give quantum-computer builders an architecture that can support larger systems without wiring, cooling requirements, and complexity growing at the same rate.”

Coherence Quantum’s technology is based on research carried out at Aalto University. For more than two years, its team has been developing and testing systems that help control quantum computers at extremely low temperatures.

During this work, the team has built and tested several versions of its technology. The tests were carried out in special cooling systems called dilution refrigerators, using quantum bits, also known as qubits.

With the new funding, Coherence Quantum plans to set up a laboratory in Espoo, Finland. The company will also develop its first product prototypes, establish manufacturing processes, continue research and development, and expand its team.
