VideoGen Raises $3.3 Million in Seed Funding to Expand AI Video Creation Platform

San Francisco-based AI video creation startup VideoGen has raised $3.3 million in Seed funding.

The round was led by Y Combinator with participation from Rebel Fund, Lobster Capital, Stretford End Capital, Mento VC, Pioneer Fund, and Decacorn VC.

VideoGen plans to use the new funding to expand its team, grow its brand, and accelerate product development.

AI Agents for Video Creation

Led by CEO Anton Koenig, VideoGen provides an AI-powered video creation platform that uses AI agents to help users produce fully editable and copyright-free videos.

Users can provide a brief or upload existing media, and VideoGen’s AI agents guide the production process through structured workflows. The platform can also manage multiple related videos while keeping assets and context consistent.

VideoGen offers more than 200 AI voices across 50+ languages and accents along with one-click video translation and browser-based editing.

For developers and technology companies, the platform also provides a Text-to-Video API and MCP integration, allowing videos to be generated and edited programmatically.

More Than 5 Million Users

VideoGen says it has surpassed 5 million users across more than 190 countries. Its customers range from individual creators and small businesses to teams at Fortune 500 companies.

Businesses use the platform for a variety of applications including:

  • Product videos and advertisements
  • Performance marketing campaigns
  • E-commerce content
  • Training and onboarding videos
  • E-learning content
  • Social media and other marketing videos

From Bootstrapped Startup to Y Combinator

VideoGen was founded in 2023 by Anton Koenig and David Grossman who initially invested $30,000 from their internship savings to launch the company.

“Most AI video tools give you a clip. Nobody wants a clip, they want a finished video. VideoGen automates the entire edit, and through our API and MCP, companies now generate videos without ever opening an editor. Full automation is where video is going, and 5 million users suggest the market agrees,” said Anton Koenig, co-founder and CEO of VideoGen.

The startup bootstrapped its operations for its first year before joining Y Combinator’s Summer 2024 batch.

VideoGen says its latest funding will help it scale its team and continue developing AI-powered tools that make professional video production faster and more accessible.
