Umeå-based biotech company Omnio has raised €2.9 million in a new funding round. The round was oversubscribed and backed by the company’s existing investors.
The new funding will help Omnio continue developing its plasminogen-based treatment for chronic wounds. The company previously raised €4.3 million in a funding round completed in spring 2025.
Omnio is developing a biological treatment for diabetic foot ulcers, which can affect up to one-third of the 500 million people living with diabetes worldwide. Advanced diabetic foot ulcers can cost healthcare systems around €50,000 per case.
“This financing demonstrates our continuous progress and strong confidence from our current investors. Their support allows us to continue the development and puts us in a stronger position ahead of our next financing round for clinical studies,” said Felipe Velasquez, CEO of Omnio.
Omnio was founded based on research by Professor Tor Ny at Umeå University, who also leads the company’s R&D work. The company is developing plasminogen-based treatments for chronic wounds and other related conditions.
Omnio is working on a biological treatment designed to target the underlying causes of poor wound healing. The goal is to help wounds heal more effectively.
The company’s main focus is diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), which can be difficult to treat and heal. Omnio says more than 500 million people worldwide live with diabetes, and up to one-third may develop a foot ulcer during their lifetime.
