Superluminal Medicines, a Boston-based biotechnology company using AI and structural biology for drug discovery, has raised $60 million in Series B funding.

The round was led by BVF Partners, with participation from new investors Deep Track Capital and Perceptive Advisors. Existing investors including RA Capital Management, Insight Partners, NVIDIA, Catalio Capital Management, Eli Lilly and Company, Cooley, and Gaingels also participated.

Led by CEO Cony D’Cruz, Superluminal Medicines is developing small-molecule drugs that target G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), a major class of drug targets involved in many diseases.

The company combines AI and machine learning, protein dynamics, structural biology, and cryo-electron microscopy to identify GPCR targets and design potential drug candidates. Its platform analyzes GPCR structures and uses AI-based models to design small molecules and predict properties such as drug absorption, metabolism, and toxicity.

Superluminal’s lead program targets MC4R, a receptor involved in appetite and energy regulation. The company is developing the treatment for rare genetic forms of obesity and hypothalamic obesity, with plans to begin human testing by the end of the year.

The company also plans to explore additional indications, including potential applications in Prader-Willi syndrome and broader obesity treatment.

Superluminal Medicines will use the new funding to advance its lead obesity program toward clinical development, expand additional pipeline programs, and develop more small-molecule GPCR therapies for endocrine and cardiometabolic diseases.

The company also has strategic partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, including Eli Lilly, to develop small-molecule therapies targeting undisclosed GPCRs for obesity and cardiometabolic diseases.
