Miter Raises $40M Series B to Expand AI Workforce Platform for Contractors

Miter, a San Francisco-based AI-powered workforce management platform for construction companies, has raised $40 million in Series B funding.

The round was led by Battery Ventures, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners and Coatue. The latest financing brings Miter’s total funding raised to $78 million.

The company plans to use the funding to expand its operations, strengthen product development, and build more AI-powered tools for contractors.

AI-Powered Workforce Management for Construction

Led by CEO Connor Watumull, Miter provides an AI-native operating system designed to bring key construction business functions into a single platform.

Its software supports construction payroll, HR, field operations, job costing, expense management, safety and accounts payable.

The platform can process invoices, receipts and pay-rate tables, automate complex workflows, identify labor cost trends, create safety reports from photos or voice notes, and summarize job status.

Miter currently serves more than 2,000 contractors, including companies such as Clayco and Haugland Group.

Miter Expands Beyond Construction Payroll

Miter originally focused on construction payroll but has expanded into a broader workforce management platform.

The company said contractors often rely on a mix of older software, spreadsheets and paper-based processes for functions such as time tracking, HR, safety, equipment management and job costing.

Miter is working to bring these functions together through an AI-native system built around labor data, including information about who worked, which job they worked on, how long they worked and how much they were paid.

Over the past six months, the company has launched new products covering Safety, Performance, Data Studio and Accounts Payable.

Growing Customer Base

Since its Series A, Miter said it has nearly tripled its customer count, with thousands of contractors now using its platform.

Its customers include general contractors such as Truebeck and Great Falls, specialty contractors including Marathon Electrical and Foster Specialty Floors, and enterprise customers such as Clayco, Haugland and 3E.

The company also serves smaller businesses including San Diego Shade and A-1 Modular.

Miter said roughly 2% of American construction workers are currently paid through its platform.

Funding to Accelerate AI Development

Most of the new Series B funding will go toward developing additional AI products for contractors and expanding Miter’s engineering team.

The company already uses AI internally for customer support, engineering and operations. Its tools include systems designed to handle routine support requests, provide employees with customer context, assist with code reviews and turn customer activity into actionable tasks.

Miter says these AI systems are helping its team ship products and respond to customers more quickly.

Building Technology for a Growing Construction Market

The company sees construction as a critical part of the infrastructure expansion driven by data centers, power plants, transmission lines and other large projects.

Miter’s goal is to help contractors manage the workforce and operational processes required to deliver these projects while reducing reliance on disconnected legacy systems.

With $40 million in new funding, Miter plans to continue expanding its AI-native workforce management platform and serve more construction businesses.
