Matchpoint Therapeutics Raises $150 Million in Series B Round

Matchpoint Therapeutics, a Massachusetts-based biotechnology startup, has raised $150 million in Series B funding to advance the development of new medicines for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

The funding round was co-led by Nextech Invest and Norwest. Other investors included Invus, BB Biotech, T1D Fund and BOLD Longevity Growth. Existing investors, including Access Biotechnology, Atlas Venture, Sanofi Ventures and Digitalis Ventures, also participated.

The company will use the new funding to advance its lead drug candidate, MPT-062, toward clinical proof-of-concept studies and develop its broader pipeline of potential treatments.

Matchpoint will also continue working on an additional drug development programme funded by Novartis under an agreement announced in July 2025.

Matchpoint Therapeutics Develops New Medicines for Autoimmune Diseases

Founded to develop precision medicines, Matchpoint Therapeutics is working on oral treatments for autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.

The company focuses on covalent small molecules, a type of drug designed to form a chemical bond with a specific target protein. This approach can help researchers develop treatments that act on proteins that have historically been difficult to target with conventional medicines.

Matchpoint combines chemical biology, covalent chemistry, structure-based drug design and computational science to identify and develop potential drug candidates.

Its discovery platform is designed to help researchers create medicines for biologically validated targets, with the goal of developing treatments that are more precisely directed at the underlying mechanisms of disease.

$150 Million Funding to Advance MPT-062

A major priority for the new funding is MPT-062, Matchpoint’s lead drug candidate.

The company plans to use the capital to move the programme toward clinical proof-of-concept, an important stage in drug development that helps establish whether a treatment shows evidence of working in patients.

The funding will also support the development of additional candidates across Matchpoint’s pipeline.

Developing new medicines requires significant investment in research, testing and clinical trials. The Series B financing provides Matchpoint with additional capital to progress its programmes toward potential clinical applications.

Novartis Collaboration Supports Drug Discovery

Matchpoint Therapeutics also has a discovery collaboration with Novartis, a global pharmaceutical company.

Under an agreement announced in July 2025, Novartis backed an additional programme at Matchpoint. The biotechnology company plans to continue advancing this work alongside its internal drug development efforts.

The collaboration provides another route for Matchpoint to develop its drug discovery capabilities while working with an established pharmaceutical partner.

New Investors Join Matchpoint’s Board

As part of the financing, Kanishka Pothula, managing partner at Nextech Invest, and Brian Matesic, principal at Norwest, will join Matchpoint Therapeutics’ board of directors.

Their appointments follow the investment by the two firms, which co-led the $150 million Series B round.

The new capital and board appointments will support the company’s next phase of development as it advances its lead programme and expands its research pipeline.

With $150 million in fresh funding, Matchpoint Therapeutics is continuing its work on precision covalent medicines for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Its progress will depend on further research and clinical testing to determine whether its drug candidates can demonstrate safety and effectiveness in patients.
