Berlin-founded startup Restate has raised $20 million in a Series A funding round to develop infrastructure that helps companies run AI agents and backend applications more reliably.
The funding round was led by European venture capital firm Singular, with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures. With this latest investment, Restate has raised $27 million in total.
The company will use the new funding to improve its products and expand its business in the United States. It also plans to open a new commercial hub in San Francisco.
Founded in 2024, Restate is building infrastructure for modern applications, including distributed backend systems and AI agents. Its software helps applications continue working even when they face crashes, errors, or other failures.
Restate handles the complex technical work behind these systems, allowing developers to focus on building and improving their applications instead of managing the underlying infrastructure.
The company says its technology is already being used by hundreds of businesses, including companies from the Fortune 500.
Stephan Ewen, CEO and co-founder of Restate, said: “Durable execution solved an important problem: it made individual processes reliable.
“But software is increasingly made up of services, agents, workflows, and state that all need to stay reliable as they interact. We believe durability has to become a property of the infrastructure itself.”
The founders of Restate also created Apache Flink, an open-source technology widely used for processing real-time data in industries such as banking, streaming services, and software-as-a-service.
Restate was also co-founded by former Apache Flink colleagues Igal Shilman and Till Rohrmann, along with Ahmed Forghal, who previously worked at Stripe and Meta.
