Good Tape Raises €600K in Management Buyout Backed by Nordic Makers

Copenhagen-based AI transcription company Good Tape has secured €600,000 in new funding from Nordic Makers. The investment group was founded by former unicorn startup founders and invests its own money in early-stage Nordic companies.

The investment was led by Alexander Aghassipour, co-founder of Zendesk. He has also joined Good Tape’s board as part of the investment. Nordic Makers typically invests around €500,000 in early-stage startups.

Good Tape said the funding round is part of a management buyout. As part of the deal, the company’s founders have taken over the ownership stake previously held by Danish media company Zetland, which helped incubate Good Tape.

With the deal completed, Good Tape is now an independent company. The new funding is expected to support the company as it continues developing its AI-powered transcription technology and growing its business.

“Good Tape was built inside a newsroom by people who needed to trust where their interviews ended up. Zetland gave us the room to build it, and we owe them a lot. Now we’re going all in on that trust. With Explore, Good Tape goes from transcribing your interviews to also connecting them, and it’s still safe for your most sensitive material,” said Finderup, co-founder and CEO, Good Tape.

Founded in 2022, Good Tape started as an internal tool at Zetland, a Danish member-funded news organization. It was created by journalists who needed a reliable way to turn interviews and recordings into accurate transcripts.

The journalists wanted to keep sensitive information private instead of sending it to outside transcription companies. Good Tape later grew into a standalone business focused on AI-powered transcription.

“There is so much uncertainty and scepticism around AI tools right now, that many people are getting too overwhelmed to use them effectively. We need to give people products that they don’t have to worry about, that still leverage the power of AI. Like being able to search and interact intelligently with years worth of interviews, in the way Explore allows,” said Aghassipour, co-founder of Zendesk and partner, Nordic Makers.

Good Tape has launched Good Tape Explore, a new feature that helps users find useful connections across their past recordings.

The feature links new recordings with a user’s previous transcripts to identify patterns, changes in opinions, contradictions, and supporting points from earlier interviews. Each insight is linked back to the original recording, making it easier for users to check the source and understand the full context.
