Molten Salt Solutions Raises $7M in Seed Round

Molten Salt Solutions (MSS), a Santa Fe, New Mexico-based company producing enriched stable isotopes for the fusion and advanced nuclear markets, has raised $7 million in Seed funding.

The round was led by Dolby Family Ventures, with participation from Vanedge Capital Partners, Alumni Ventures, Gaingels, True Ventures, and Future Ventures. The latest funding brings the company’s total funding to $10 million.

MSS plans to use the new capital to move from laboratory-validated technology to pilot-scale production, fulfill customer agreements, expand its technical and operations teams and strengthen partnerships across the fusion and advanced nuclear supply chain.

Led by CEO John Elling, Molten Salt Solutions produces high-purity lithium-6 and lithium-7, which are important materials for fusion systems and advanced fission molten salt reactors.

“Fusion and small modular fission reactors are racing toward commercialization and are necessary to meet growing global power demands. Both depend on a secure domestic supply of enriched lithium. MSS meets this need,” said John Elling, CEO of Molten Salt Solutions. “This investment enables us to scale our technology and production capability to meet the demands of advanced reactors today and in the future.”

The company has developed a proprietary isotope enrichment process designed to improve efficiency compared with traditional enrichment methods. MSS is also developing additional enriched isotopes for emerging technology markets.

The latest funding follows a $3 million pre-seed round and more than $5 million in grant funding, including support from New Mexico’s Advanced Energy Award.

Molten Salt Solutions is focused on building a secure domestic supply of enriched isotopes for the growing fusion and advanced nuclear energy industries.
