Voya Energy Raises $35M Series A

Voya Energy, a Hayward, California-based clean energy startup, has raised $35 million in Series A funding to develop and deploy its aluminum-based electricity generation technology.

The round was led by Energy Impact Partners, with participation from John Doerr, Mantis VC, StepStone Group, Founders Fund, Overmatch Ventures, and Seven Stars.

Voya develops a clean energy system that converts recycled scrap aluminum into electricity through a low temperature electrochemical process. Unlike traditional diesel generators, the system produces electricity without combustion or air emissions at the point of use.

The company is targeting data centers, industrial operators and other large energy users that face challenges with grid access, permitting or backup fuel logistics.

Voya’s industrial-scale system is designed to generate up to 2 megawatts from a standard 20-foot container. At scale, the company expects its technology to provide approximately 100 megawatts of generation capacity and 10 gigawatt-hours of stored energy per acre.

“America needs dramatically more electricity to power our industries, strengthen our communities, and support continued economic growth,” said John Doerr, Founder at Doerr Capital and Chair at Kleiner Perkins. “Meeting that demand requires new technologies that can deliver clean, firm power at speed and scale. Voya is taking a bold approach to that challenge, turning abundant aluminum into a practical source of 24/7 power wherever it is needed.”

The new funding will support technology development, initial deployments planned for 2027, and manufacturing scale-up expected in 2028.

Founded in 2025, Voya Energy is headquartered in Hayward, California, and is already working with nearly a dozen companies across data centers, industry, transportation, utilities and infrastructure on pilot projects.
