Blank Street, a fast-growing coffee and matcha chain, has raised $75 million in Series C funding to expand its stores across the U.S. West Coast and introduce new products.
The funding round includes investors such as General Atlantic, Left Lane Capital, General Catalyst, and Tiger Global. The latest investment reportedly values the company at around $650 million, including the new funding.
Founded in Brooklyn in 2020 by Vinay Menda, Issam Freiha, and Ignacio Llado, Blank Street started with a single coffee cart and has grown to more than 100 locations across the U.S. and U.K.
The company is now targeting California, with new stores planned for Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Malibu. It also plans to expand its product range including adding ice cream to attract more customers during afternoon hours.
Blank Street has become particularly popular with younger customers, helped by the strong demand for its matcha drinks on social media.
The company focuses on small store formats, automated equipment, and standardised processes to keep operating costs lower than traditional coffee shops. This model allows Blank Street to open in busy urban areas while requiring less investment per location.
With the fresh capital, Blank Street aims to continue its expansion and build a larger presence in the competitive specialty coffee market, and challenge to establish brands such as Starbucks and Costa Coffee.
