Avanlee Care Raises $3.5 Million in Seed Funding to Expand Medicare Advantage Platform

Avanlee Care, a platform designed to support family caregivers, has raised $3.5 million in seed funding to expand its services across the Medicare Advantage (MA) market.

The round was led by BEA Venture Fund, with participation from angel investor Esther Dyson, Avanlee’s board chair, Chrysalis Ventures, and FairBridge VC. The latest investment brings the company’s total funding to $6 million.

Avanlee Care Supports Family Caregivers

Founded in 2020, Avanlee Care helps Medicare Advantage plans and other healthcare organizations engage family caregivers and measure their impact on member health.

The platform allows caregivers to:

  • Schedule appointments and manage medications
  • Communicate with health plans and providers
  • Receive vaccination reminders
  • Search for healthcare providers
  • Connect with retailers and access support resources

Healthcare payers can use the platform to gain insights into caregiver burnout, appointment bookings, home health services, medication adherence, and member health trends.

Avanlee initially launched as a direct-to-consumer app before shifting its focus to enterprise customers.

Funding to Expand Across Medicare Advantage

Avanlee will use the new funding to expand its presence in the Medicare Advantage market.

The company is fully integrated with Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs as its lead pharmacy partner for discounted medications. It is also discussing a potential partnership with a national Medicare Advantage plan to provide its platform to members who have an assigned caregiver.

An initial potential pilot could involve thousands of members, with a broader expansion planned for mid-2027. Avanlee is also working toward a separate integration with an unnamed national pharmacy partner to support medication delivery.

The company charges healthcare payers on a per-member-per-month basis, while caregivers can use the platform at no direct cost.

Caregiver Wellness and Health Plan Insights

Avanlee offers caregiver wellness tools, including weekly stress questionnaires and educational resources on estate planning, life planning, and legal services.

The company says 59% of past users have engaged with its wellness tools, while more than half of consistent users reported a decrease in overall stress.

The stress survey also provides data to Avanlee’s health plan partners, helping them evaluate caregiver burnout. Caregivers can add relatives to the platform to improve visibility and support, while the service also facilitates grocery delivery through an integration with Walmart.

Avanlee argues that supporting caregivers can improve outcomes for the people receiving care and help health plans build stronger relationships with families.

AI Features Aim to Reduce Caregiver Workload

Avanlee is incorporating artificial intelligence into its platform to make caregiving tasks easier.

Its AI features can summarize audio-recorded caregiver notes, recommend providers based on user preferences, and match questions with curated resources. The platform can also make recommendations based on a member’s medications, health conditions, and social needs.

These features are powered by AWS Bedrock. Avanlee says requests are handled within its cloud environment rather than being sent to a third-party model provider.

The company is also working to streamline appointment scheduling. It can automatically schedule visits requested by health plans, such as annual wellness visits or cancer screenings. In the future, Avanlee plans to allow caregivers to book additional appointments for needs beyond those initiated by a health plan.

Its platform is designed to connect caregivers, health plans, and providers while giving payers greater insight into caregiver needs and member health.
