AI-powered learning platform Mindmax has raised £2.5 million in a venture capital funding round. The round was led by Concept Ventures, with participation from Redrice Ventures, Daybreak Ventures and Lerer Hippeau.
The funding round also attracted several angel investors, including former Depop CEO Maria Raga and Helsing co-founder Torsten Reil.
Mindmax was founded by Ed Cooke and Daniel Zohar. The company is building AI-powered learning tools to help people develop new skills, remember what they learn and prepare for professional exams and qualifications.
Before starting Mindmax, the founders were part of the team behind Memrise, a popular language-learning platform with more than 80 million users worldwide. Their experience at Memrise has helped shape Mindmax’s approach to personalised learning using AI.
Mindmax’s first product is an AI tutor designed to help people prepare for professional exams and improve their skills. It uses live conversations to create personalised lessons. Users can ask questions, interrupt explanations and focus on topics they find difficult. The platform also provides visual explanations and illustrations to make learning easier.
The company’s technology adjusts lessons based on each user’s existing knowledge, learning goals and preferred way of learning. This allows users to learn at their own pace and get explanations that match their needs.
Mindmax is developing its platform at a time when more people are discussing how AI could affect education and independent thinking. The company wants to use AI as a learning partner rather than a tool that simply provides answers. Through interactive conversations and personalised explanations, it aims to encourage users to think, ask questions and understand subjects more deeply.
“Curiosity has always been the greatest fuel for learning. Which means you need to be able to ask questions. When you’re in a one-to-one conversation with an expert, you’ll ask 20-30 questions per hour. You can’t do that in a classroom. It’s why our approach is so powerful, “said Daniel Zohar, co-founder of Mindmax.
The funding announcement comes after Mindmax launched its learning platform. The product is based on the founders’ experience building Memrise, a language-learning platform that has gained more than 80 million users worldwide.
